As a way of digging one' self out of a hole, or a well, songwriting has few equals in its effectiveness. Rapture of the Deep pulls the listener into the experience of being in a well of despondency, but it lulls and soothes as it details the other-worldly been-down-so-long-it-looks-like-up-to-me euphoria of learning to dive when swimming has failed. Resurfacing? Why would you want to, in the depths of such sonic splendor?
